THE INSPIRING STORY OF WORLD WELLNESS DAY SINCE 2012

It was in Turkey, in 2012, that the simple but powerful idea of a day dedicated to global well-being was born. Its initiator, Belgin Aksoy, herself a survivor of a serious health problem, decided to create a global event to encourage everyone to take care of themselves - physically, mentally and emotionally. She thus founded the Global Wellness Day movement, driven by a single motto: "One day can change your life".

What began as a small gathering in a spa hotel has become, in just a few years, one of the world's largest movements around health and well-being. By 2015, countries around the world, ministries of health, cities and celebrities had joined the initiative, until today it covers more than 170 countries across five continents. Every year, on the second Saturday in June, thousands of events are organized free of charge: yoga sessions, mindful walks, nutrition workshops, meditation, conferences and outdoor activities.

This success is due to its simplicity and universality: well-being is a fundamental human right, not a luxury. And in this respect, yoga plays a central role. With its holistic approach, it offers everyone an accessible path to a state of presence, calm and alignment.

For Yogaterrae, this date has particular resonance: celebrating this day is a reminder of how a yoga mat, chosen with care, can become much more than a simple accessory - a daily support for inner transformation and self-awareness. This time of year is also an invitation to slow down, breathe and put the essential back at the center.

So why not consider June 14, 2025 as a real date with yourself?

WHY YOGA IS AT THE HEART OF THE GENTLE PRACTICES RECOMMENDED FOR THAT DAY

On World Wellness Day, activities around the world are designed to be accessible to all, regardless of age, physical condition or culture. Among them, yoga is naturally one of the most recommended practices. And why is that? Because it embodies the very essence of well-being: listening to the body, calming the mind, breathing consciously, anchoring in the present moment.

Yoga doesn't require sophisticated equipment or physical performance. All you need is a comfortable yoga mat, a flowing outfit and the desire to let go in the moment. This simplicity makes it an ideal gateway to well-being, whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner. It's also a non-competitive practice, respectful of each individual's rhythm and deeply inclusive.

On this day, yoga sessions are often organized outdoors, in parks, on beaches or in the heart of cities, to encourage a direct connection with nature, heaven and earth. The emphasis is on gentle postures, pranayama (breathing), meditation and guided relaxation, but also on collective sharing and the energy of a group in motion.

Through yoga, we relearn to move with kindness, to breathe fully, to slow down in order to feel better. And that's precisely what this day aims to offer: a gentle, mindful reconnection with body and spirit, far removed from the injunctions of productivity or perfection.

That's why, in the spirit of this World Day, practising yoga, even for a moment, is already honouring ourselves. And if it starts with a simple gesture - rolling out your yoga mat - then it's a huge step towards a more harmonious life.

HOW YOUR YOGA MAT CAN BE A CHOICE FOR HEALTH AND BALANCE

Choosing a yoga mat should never be a simple practical or aesthetic act. It's a gesture that speaks volumes about our relationship with our body, our environment and our values. In the spirit of World Wellness Day, this choice becomes a symbol: that of an alignment between our practice and our way of inhabiting the world.

A good mat is more than just non-slip. It supports the spine in bending, absorbs impact in dynamic postures, preserves joints in balancing and promotes anchorage in sitting postures. In other words, it's an ally of your physical health. Too thin, too slippery, too rigid or too toxic, a poorly chosen mat can, on the other hand, hinder your progress, accentuate pain or make practice uncomfortable.

But beyond the physical aspect, your mat is also the energetic receptacle of your breath, your emotions and your attention. It's on this mat that you place yourself, day after day, to regenerate yourself, relax your mind and listen to what's there. Hence the importance of a healthy, breathable, non-toxic material. Cork, natural rubber or certain high-quality recycled materials combine health, comfort and respect for the environment.

And if you think about it further, your choice of carpet becomes a genuine act of ecological awareness. For a carpet designed without plastic or industrial glue, made from renewable resources and ethically manufactured, is a message we send to the world. It shows a personal commitment to a more sober, gentler way of life, more in tune with the cycles of life.

In short, much more than a practice accessory, your mat can become a foundation of balance, a ground for inner transformation and a tangible reflection of your path to wellness.

SIMPLE RITUALS TO HONOR YOUR DAILY WELL-BEING

Well-being is not a luxury or a distant destination. It's an art of living that begins with the simplest gestures, in the moments we choose to devote to ourselves, with gentleness and regularity. On World Wellness Day, why not anchor or reinvent personal rituals that are accessible and deeply nourishing?

It can start with a few minutes of conscious breathing every morning, just after waking up. Place your hands on your stomach, breathe slowly through your nose and feel the air flowing in and out. This simple ritual calms the nervous system, clears the mind and refocuses attention before plunging into the flow of everyday life.

On your yoga mat, even 10 minutes of gentle practice is enough to reconnect you with your body. A slow sun salutation, an anchoring posture like Balasana (child's pose), or a flowing sequence to release accumulated tension... These little moments become appointments with yourself, as sacred as they are essential.

Adopting a ritual of gratitude at the end of the day is another precious gesture. A few lines in a notebook, a smile at your reflection, a symbolic gesture (like blowing out a candle) to honor what you've been through... That's what well-being is all about: acknowledging what has been experienced, without judgment, and celebrating life in all its nuances.

Even the layout of your space plays a role: a streamlined practice area, a soft carpet, subdued lighting, a soothing essential oil... These are all signals sent to your brain to tell you: "you have the right to slow down, to breathe, to love yourself".

These rituals, when they become regular, weave a golden thread through your days. They boost your self-esteem, pacify your inner self, and cultivate lasting well-being, in harmony with your own rhythm and needs.

HOW THIS WORLD DAY ENCOURAGES A CONNECTION TO NATURE AND TO ONESELF

World Wellness Day isn't just about taking care of the body. It invites us to return to the essentials, to the inner breath that connects us to the living world. In a world that is often hyper-connected, where demands accumulate, this day traces a path of reconnection to nature and to ourselves, in all simplicity.

Connecting with nature starts with getting outside. Walking barefoot in the grass, listening to birdsong at sunrise, sitting at the foot of a tree, closing your eyes and breathing. It's here that you can once again feel the slow, just rhythm of life, far removed from that of notifications. Practising yoga outdoors, on an ecological yoga mat, makes for a more intimate communion. The ground supports the body, the light caresses the skin, the breath is attuned to the wind.

But this reconnection with nature also involves making conscious choices. Opting for ethical, planet-friendly products, practicing consciously on a natural cork or plant rubber mat, is already an act of care towards the Earth. Because taking care of ourselves also means taking care of the environment in which we live.

As for reconnecting with oneself, it's all about listening. Listening to the breath, to the heartbeat, to the areas of the body in tension or at peace. This world day encourages us to slow down, to be silent, to honor the body as a temple, not to be transformed but to be inhabited with gentleness.

Practicing mindfulness, meditating for a few minutes in the presence of the elements, writing down how you feel, or simply giving yourself a break during the day, are all ways of responding to this invitation.

In 2025, this day is particularly relevant to climate and social issues. It reminds us that nature and humankind are interconnected, and that taking care of ourselves without excluding the world around us means working towards a greater, fairer, more sustainable balance.

KEY TECHNIQUES: BREATHING, EATING, SLEEPING, DIGITAL DETOX AND MORE

World Wellness Day is more than just an event. It is a global invitation to explore all the dimensions of well-being, through five fundamental pillars that outline a more balanced, sustainable and conscious lifestyle.

It all starts with the breath. This vital function, often forgotten, becomes a guide again as soon as we slow down. Conscious breathing techniques, such as pranayama in yoga, are now recognized for reducing stress, improving concentration and boosting immunity. Better breathing means better living.

Food naturally follows. On this day of celebration of well-being, we invite everyone to return to simple, plant-based, colorful, local nutrition. Eating becomes a ritual of care, a gesture of love towards ourselves and the planet. The link between yoga and Ayurvedic nutrition, for example, is in line with this logic of mind-body coherence.

Sleep, too often sacrificed, is a major key to vitality. Better sleep means better living. Yoga nidra, certain inverted postures and evening meditation can help calm the mind and prepare the body for rest. Adopting evening rituals, in soft light and away from screens, supports this intention.

Next comes digital detox, which has become almost essential in our connected societies. Switching off your phone for a few hours, taking a break from the networks, freeing yourself from the constant stream of notifications: these micro-gestures offer space to refocus, meditate, read, walk, create. A screen-free yoga practice, on a natural mat, in nature or in silence, reinforces this beneficial disconnection.

Finally, holistic well-being encompasses all this... and much more. It's about an aligned lifestyle, a conscious choice in all our daily habits: movement, breathing, thinking, relating, consuming. The philosophy of yoga is part of this approach, weaving a bridge between self-care and care for the world.

By exploring these themes on this day, everyone can begin a transformation, however small, towards a lasting inner balance.
