THE INSPIRING STORY OF WORLD WELLNESS DAY SINCE 2012
It was in Turkey in 2012 that the simple but powerful idea of a day dedicated to global well-being was born. Its initiator, Belgin Aksoy, herself a survivor of a serious health problem, decided to create a global event to encourage everyone to take care of themselves — physically, mentally and emotionally . She thus founded the Global Wellness Day movement, driven by a single motto: “One day can change your life.”
What started as a small gathering in a spa hotel has, in just a few years, become one of the largest global movements around health and well-being . Since 2015, countries around the world, health ministries, cities and personalities have joined this initiative, and today it covers more than 170 countries across five continents. Every year, on the second Saturday of June , thousands of free events are organized: yoga sessions, mindful walks, nutrition workshops, meditation, conferences and outdoor activities.
This success is due to its simplicity and universality: well-being is a fundamental human right , not a luxury. And in this regard, yoga plays a central role. Through its holistic approach, it offers everyone an accessible path to a state of presence, calm, and alignment.
For Yogaterrae, this date resonates particularly: celebrating this day is a reminder of how a carefully chosen yoga mat can become much more than just an accessory— a daily support for inner transformation and self-listening . This time of year is also an invitation to slow down, breathe, and put the essential back at the center.
So, why not consider June 14, 2025, as a real date with yourself?

WHY YOGA IS AT THE HEART OF THE GENTLE PRACTICES RECOMMENDED THAT DAY
On World Wellness Day, activities around the world are designed to be accessible to everyone , regardless of age, physical condition, or culture. Among them, yoga naturally stands out as one of the most recommended practices. Why? Because it embodies the very essence of well-being: listening to the body, calming the mind, conscious breathing, anchoring oneself in the present moment .
Yoga doesn't require sophisticated equipment or physical performance. A simple, comfortable yoga mat , flowing clothing, and the desire to immerse yourself in the moment are all you need. This simplicity makes it an ideal gateway to well-being , whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner. It's also a non-competitive practice, respectful of everyone's pace, and deeply inclusive.
On this day, yoga sessions are often held outdoors, in parks, on beaches, or in the heart of cities, to encourage a direct connection with nature , the sky, and the earth. The emphasis is on gentle postures, pranayama (breathing), meditation, guided relaxation, but also on collective sharing and the energy of a group in motion.
Through yoga, we relearn how to move with kindness, to breathe fully, to slow down to feel better. And that is precisely what this day seeks to offer: a reconnection to the body and mind in gentleness and awareness , far from the injunctions of productivity or perfection.
That's why, in the spirit of this World Yoga Day, practicing yoga, even for just a moment, is already a way of honoring yourself. And if it starts with a simple gesture— rolling out your yoga mat —then it's a huge step toward a more harmonious life.

HOW YOUR YOGA MAT CAN MEAN A CHOICE FOR HEALTH AND BALANCE
Choosing a yoga mat should never be a simple practical or aesthetic act. It is a gesture that speaks volumes about the relationship we have with our body, our environment, and our values. In the spirit of World Wellness Day , this choice becomes a symbol: that of an alignment between our practice and our way of inhabiting the world.
A good mat isn't just non-slip. It supports the spine when bending, absorbs impact in dynamic postures, protects joints when balancing, and promotes grounding in sitting postures. In other words, it's an ally for your physical health . A poorly chosen mat, if it's too thin, too slippery, too rigid, or too toxic, can hinder your progress, increase pain, or make your practice uncomfortable.
But beyond the physical aspect, your mat is also the energetic receptacle of your breath, your emotions and your attention. It is on it that you place yourself, day after day, to regenerate yourself, relax the mind, listen to what is there. Hence the importance of a healthy, breathable, non-toxic material . Cork , natural rubber , or certain high-quality recycled materials allow you to combine health, comfort and respect for the environment .
And if we think further, the choice of one's rug becomes a true act of ecological awareness . Because a rug designed without plastic or industrial glue, from renewable resources, manufactured ethically, is a message that we send to the world. It demonstrates a personal commitment to a more sober, gentler life, more aligned with the cycles of life.
In short, much more than a practice accessory, your mat can become a foundation of balance , a ground for inner transformation and a tangible reflection of your journey towards well-being.

SIMPLE RITUALS TO ADOPT TO HONOR YOUR DAILY WELL-BEING
Well-being is not a luxury or a distant destination. It is an art of living that begins with the simplest gestures, in the moments we choose to devote to ourselves, with gentleness and regularity . On the occasion of World Well-being Day , why not anchor or reinvent personal, accessible and deeply nourishing rituals?
It can begin with a few minutes of mindful breathing each morning, right after waking up. Place your hands on your stomach, breathe slowly through your nose, and feel the air coming in and going out. This simple ritual calms the nervous system, clears the mind, and refocuses attention before diving into the flow of everyday life.
On your yoga mat , even 10 minutes of gentle practice is enough to reconnect with your body. A slow sun salutation, a grounding pose like Balasana (child's pose), or a fluid sequence to release accumulated tension... These little moments become appointments with yourself , as sacred as they are essential.
Adopting a gratitude ritual at the end of the day is another valuable gesture. A few lines in a notebook, a smile at your reflection, a symbolic gesture (like blowing out a candle) to honor what you've been through... This is also what well-being is all about: acknowledging what you've experienced, without judgment, and celebrating life in all its nuances.
Even the layout of your space plays a role: a clean practice area , a soft mat, subdued lighting, a soothing essential oil... So many signals sent to your brain to tell you: "you have the right to slow down, to breathe, to love yourself."
These rituals, when they become regular, weave a golden thread through your days. They strengthen self-esteem , pacify the interior, and cultivate lasting well-being, in harmony with your rhythm and your needs.

HOW THIS WORLD DAY ENCOURAGES A CONNECTION TO NATURE AND TO YOURSELF
World Wellness Day doesn't just celebrate body care. It invites us to return to the essentials , to that inner breathing that connects us to the living world. In an often hyperconnected world, where demands accumulate, this day traces a path of reconnection to nature and to oneself , in all simplicity.
Connecting with nature begins with going outside. Walking barefoot in the grass, listening to the birds singing at sunrise, sitting at the foot of a tree, closing your eyes, breathing. This is where you feel the slow and just rhythm of life again, far from that of notifications. By practicing yoga outside, on an ecological yoga mat , communion becomes more intimate. The ground supports the body, the light caresses the skin, the breath is in harmony with the wind.
But this reconnection with nature also involves conscious choices. Opting for ethical products that respect the planet, practicing consciously on a natural cork or vegetable rubber mat, is already an act of care towards the Earth. Because taking care of yourself also means taking care of the environment in which you live.
As for reconnecting with oneself, it is done through listening. Listening to the breath, the heartbeat, the areas of the body that are tense or at peace. This world day encourages us to slow down, to be silent, to honor the body as a temple , not to transform but to inhabit it gently.
Practicing mindfulness , meditating for a few minutes in the presence of the elements, writing down what you feel, or simply giving yourself a break during the day, are all ways to respond to this invitation.
In 2025, this day finds a particular echo in climate and social issues. It reminds us that nature and humankind are interconnected , that taking care of ourselves without excluding the world around us means working towards a greater, fairer, more sustainable balance.

KEY TECHNIQUES: BREATHING, DIET, SLEEP, DIGITAL DETOX AND MORE
World Wellness Day is more than just an event. It's a global invitation to explore all aspects of well-being, through five fundamental pillars that shape a more balanced, sustainable, and conscious lifestyle.
It all starts with the breath . This vital, often overlooked function becomes a guide once again when we slow down. Conscious breathing techniques, such as pranayama in yoga, are now recognized for reducing stress, improving concentration, and strengthening immunity. Breathing better means living better.
Nutrition follows naturally. On this day celebrating well-being, we invite everyone to return to a simple, plant-based, colorful, and local diet. Eating becomes a ritual of attention, an act of love for oneself and the planet. The connection between yoga and Ayurvedic diet, for example, is part of this logic of body-mind coherence.
Sleep , too often sacrificed, is a major key to vitality. Sleeping better means living better. Yoga nidra, certain inverted postures, or even evening meditation can help calm the mind and prepare the body for rest. Adopting evening rituals, in soft light, away from screens, supports this intention.
Then comes the digital detox , which has become almost essential in our connected societies. Turning off your phone for a few hours, taking a break from social media, freeing yourself from the constant flow of notifications: these micro-gestures offer a space to refocus, meditate, read, walk, and create. A screen-free yoga practice, on a natural mat , in the great outdoors, or in silence, reinforces this beneficial disconnection.
Ultimately, holistic wellness encompasses all of this… and much more. It's about an aligned lifestyle, a conscious choice in all of our daily habits: movement, breathing, thinking, relationships, and consumption. The philosophy of yoga is part of this approach, building a bridge between self-care and caring for the world.
By exploring these themes during this day, everyone can initiate a transformation, however small, towards a lasting inner balance .
